Nexton GmbH, a leading German company based in Düsseldorf, specializes in the development and implementation of advanced electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure across Europe. Their mission is to provide efficient, sustainable, and user-friendly solutions to support the growing adoption of electric mobility. They are setting a new standard for fast, reliable, and 100% renewable energy-powered charging stations. One of their recent milestones is the opening of their first EV charging station in Bulgaria.
The Mission
Nexton GmbH’s new EV charging station in Bulgaria is part of the company’s ambitious plan to expand its network across Europe. The station is designed to offer cutting-edge charging solutions powered entirely by renewable energy, significantly reducing the environmental impact of transportation. The station incorporates solar panels, which generate the energy required for charging.

The Challenge
As the demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, the need for efficient, reliable, and sustainable charging infrastructure becomes increasingly critical. Bulgaria, like many European countries, must invest in a robust EV charging network that can support the transition to electric mobility while reducing carbon emissions and enhancing energy efficiency.
The Solution
Nexton’s first charging station in Bulgaria is a German-engineered design, featuring:
100% renewable energy: The station is powered entirely by renewable energy, with solar panels installed on the roof of the station and of surrounding buildings.
Scalable charging capacity: Each station includes 4 to 12 charging points, offering energy output ranging from 150kW to 360kW, ensuring fast and efficient charging for various EV models.
Solar power generation: The solar panels of the station and those of surrounding buildings electrically connected to the station generate 3–4MW of power, providing clean energy and helping to reduce the environmental footprint of EV charging.
Ekoda’s battery energy storage system (BESS): Ekoda provided a 1001kWh / 700kW EkoDynamic system to optimize energy usage, store excess energy, and ensure that the station operates smoothly and efficiently even during peak demand times.
The Results
Nexton’s new EV charging station in Bulgaria is a significant step forward in the development of sustainable charging infrastructure. By providing fast, reliable, and renewable energy-powered charging solutions, Nexton is contributing to the adoption of electric vehicles, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. With renewable energy powering the charging station, the reliance on fossil fuels is significantly reduced, leading to a decrease in CO2 emissions and an overall improvement in air quality.

Ekoda's Battery Energy Storage System played a pivotal role in supporting Nexton’s vision of a sustainable, efficient, and environmentally responsible EV charging infrastructure. By incorporating our EkoDynamic system at Nexton’s first EV charging station in Bulgaria, we contributed to optimizing energy usage, managing energy fluctuations, and enhancing the station’s overall efficiency.
The integration of our BESS ensures that excess energy generated from the solar panels is stored and made available when demand peaks, thus always enabling smooth and reliable charging operations. This capability is crucial for both Nexton and the community, as it helps stabilize the local grid and guarantees that the charging station can continue to operate seamlessly without relying on additional non-renewable energy sources.
The use of Ekoda’s BESS in combination with Nexton’s solar-powered charging infrastructure also ensures that energy is used efficiently and sustainably, minimizing waste and reducing the environmental impact. This collaboration demonstrates how renewable energy and advanced energy storage systems can work together to deliver long-term benefits, helping to accelerate the transition to electric mobility and a greener, carbon-neutral future for everyone.
Conclusion
The launch of Nexton’s first EV charging station in Bulgaria represents a major advancement in sustainable mobility and energy use. By integrating renewable energy sources, cutting-edge charging technology, and innovative energy storage systems, Nexton is contributing to the transformation of Europe’s EV infrastructure. Their stations not only support the growth of electric vehicle adoption but also contribute to a greener, more efficient energy ecosystem, helping to drive the transition toward a carbon-neutral future.
